As part of a
strategy to reconnect youth to the outdoors, Outdoor Nation hosts
Summits that gather Millennials to address the growing disconnect
between young people and the outdoors — harnessing
the creativity, ingenuity and passion of this extraordinary generation.
In additiona to encouraging millennials to be outdoor champions,
Outdoor Nation empowers these young people to turn their passion into
their power by direct funding of the best ideas at
its Summits. By the end of 2013, Outdoor Nation will have hosted a
total of 12 Signature Summits and 8 Intensive Training Summits and will
have invested in 12 millennial leaders to host their own Summits.
to hosting Summits and providing resources for youth-led community
projects, Outdoor Nation facilitates Millennial-to-Millennial mentoring
opportunities through its Campus Club program.
This program activates university students to mentor high school and
university-aged peers through monthly outdoor recreation outings.
Outdoor Nation also amplifies the youth voice by organizing briefings
with White House officials, members of Congress and
other important decision-makers. Continually working to build an active
community of outdoor leaders, Outdoor Nation engages young adults in
online forums about outdoor issues, manages outdoor blogs and hosts
online classes about outdoor leadership and project
the year, Outdoor Nation manages grant programs, including The North
Face Explore Fund, to fund projects across the country that increase
outdoor participation. To date, the organization
has funded over 400 projects across the country, engaged 75,000 young
in outdoor recreation, and invested $2 million to activate a new
generation of outdoor enthusiasts.
